Homes are constantly in need of attention in some way or another. Your home repair may be a simple fix, or a complicated DIY job, either way there are lots of little tricks to make life easier. Make your home care simple with these useful home repair hacks. From toilet leaks to scuffed floors, this list has the answer!
1. Check For Toilet Leaks With Kool-Aid
Pour a packet of Kool-Aid into your toilet tank and then leave it to sit for a few hours. If you come back and the water in your toilet bowl is the same colour as the tank, you have a leak. Of course, make sure not to flush the toilet while you’re waiting!
2. Crayon Over Nail Holes
Easily disguise small nail holes in your wall using a crayon. Simply find the colour of crayon that most closely matches your wall and rub it into any holes.
3. Give Your Grout A Professional Finish
If you’re replacing your grouting and want to get a perfectly straight line, your best bet is to use painter’s tape. First clean and dry the area that you are grouting, then add medium-strength painter’s tape on either side. Apply your grout, smooth it down, and then remove the tape before it dries. Ta-da! Perfectly straight lines every time.
4. Spray Away Squeaks
Solve squeaky hinges quickly and easily by spraying cooking spray directly onto them. Spray it on and then open and close the door a few times to distribute it around evenly. Then wipe away the excess and enjoy your silent doors.
5. Varnish Your Screw Threads
Prevent screws from becoming loose by applying a thin layer of clear varnish to the threads, before you screw them in. Clear nail varnish can also be used on the top of the small screws in glasses to stop them from coming loose!
6. WD-40 Crayon Off Your Wall
If you’ve turn your back for 5 minutes too long on an artistically-inclined child, all is not lost. Their crayon masterpieces can be removed from your walls with a spray of WD-40 and a cloth.
7. Clear Nail Varnish Screen Doors
Save screen doors and windows with clear nail varnish. If the break is small, simply apply a few layers of nail varnish over the screen until it feels secure.
8. Pool Noodle Your Walls
Stop your car doors from being scraped on the garage with the help of a pool noodle or two. All you need to do it cut your pool noodles in half and attach them along the walls at the correct height for your doors.
9. Squeegee Pet Hair Away
If your fluffy carpets have become extra fluffy of late, you can easily remove all the pet hair using a squeegee. Simply scrape the squeegee along the carpet and watch the piles of hair appear.
10. Buff Out Scuffs
Remove unsightly scuffs from your floors by attaching a tennis ball to the end of a broom handle.
